Straight Answers to Your Trading Questions
Quick answers from the SelfMSF FAQ about opening an account, adding funds, trading six markets and reaching our team, grouped by topic to help you find what you need.
Deposits and Withdrawals
How paying in works, what can affect timing and how your money comes back to you.
How do I deposit money into my SelfMSF account?
Log in, open the Deposit page, pick a payment method and enter the amount. Your balance updates once the payment has been processed. The methods you’ll see depend on your country, and our Deposits & Withdrawals page explains how each one works.
Which payment methods can I use?
Payment methods can include cards, bank transfer and cryptocurrency, depending on where you live. You’ll find the full list for your country on the Deposit page once you’ve logged in. Any card, bank account or crypto wallet you use needs to be registered in your own name.
How long do deposits take?
It depends on the payment method and your bank. Some deposits can reach your balance shortly after you confirm, while bank transfers often take longer. If a deposit seems to be taking a while, our support team can look into it with you.
How do I withdraw money from my account?
Request a withdrawal from your account area, choose the amount and confirm. The money normally goes back to the payment method you deposited with, and each request is checked before it’s released. Timing can vary with the payment route and any checks attached to the request.
Are there fees for deposits or withdrawals?
Deposit and withdrawal fees depend on the payment method you use. Check the details for your chosen method before you make a transaction. Your bank, card provider or crypto network may also charge its own fees, especially on international transfers or when currencies are converted.
Why does my withdrawal go back to my original payment method?
Returning money to the method it came from is a standard anti-money-laundering practice. It protects your funds by keeping withdrawals tied to an account in your name. If that method has closed or expired, our support team can help you set up another one.
Which currency is my account held in?
Your account is held in one base currency, chosen when you open it. If you deposit in a different currency, the amount is converted at the rate shown during the deposit. Your balance, margin and open positions all appear in your account currency, which keeps your figures in one unit.
Getting Started on SelfMSF
What you need to open an account and place your first trade.
How do I open a SelfMSF account?
Sign up online with your name, email address and phone number, then verify your identity and add funds. Once that’s done, you can trade all six markets from one account. Our Create Account page shows each step and what to have to hand.
What documents do I need to verify my account?
Usually a photo ID, such as a passport or national ID card, and a recent document showing your address, such as a bank statement or utility bill. You can upload clear photos of both from your account area, and a phone camera works well for this.
How long does account verification take?
Verification time depends on how clear your documents are and how many checks are needed. If something is hard to read or out of date, we’ll email you and ask for a new copy. We’ll send you a confirmation by email once your account is verified and open for deposits.
Is there a minimum age to trade with SelfMSF?
Yes, you need to be at least 18 and live in a country where SelfMSF accepts clients. We ask for your date of birth and country of residence when you sign up, and your identity documents confirm both details.
What can I trade on SelfMSF?
You can trade CFDs on forex, stocks, crypto, indices, commodities and metals from one SelfMSF account. A CFD lets you trade an asset’s price movement without owning the asset. Every account type includes all six markets, and each instrument’s hours and conditions are listed on the platform.
Do I need trading experience to open an account?
You don’t need experience to sign up. CFDs are complex, leveraged products, and leverage increases both gains and losses, which means they aren’t suitable for everyone. We ask about your knowledge during registration, and our Learn the Basics guide explains CFDs and margin in plain terms.
VIP Account
How the highest account level works and who it’s designed for.
What do I get with a VIP account?
VIP is the top SelfMSF account level. You trade the same six markets as every other level, with a dedicated account manager, priority support and reduced trading fees on eligible instruments. The VIP Account page explains what’s included and who the level is designed for.
How do I apply for VIP?
Contact our team through your account area or your account manager. VIP is available to clients who meet the applicable account requirements, and our team can talk you through eligibility and the steps involved. Your positions, history and settings stay as they are when you move.
Do VIP clients pay lower trading costs?
VIP accounts may include reduced trading fees on eligible instruments. The costs for each market are shown on the platform before you place a trade, and your account manager can explain how VIP conditions compare with your current level. A higher account level doesn’t change market prices or trading risk.
What does a VIP account manager do?
Your account manager is a named contact for your account. They can answer questions about payments, trading conditions and the platform, and keep you updated on changes that affect your account. VIP clients can also use dedicated WhatsApp assistance.
Can I keep my account manager if I leave VIP?
Your support changes to match your new account level if you move from VIP. Plus and Select also include a dedicated account contact, which means you may be able to keep the same person. Your account manager can explain what changes before you switch.
Risk & Protection
How trading risk works and the protections around your account and your money.
What are the risks of trading CFDs?
CFDs are complex instruments and carry a high risk of losing money quickly because of leverage, which increases both gains and losses. Prices can move sharply around news, and a gap can close a position at a worse level than you planned. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
Can I lose more than my deposit?
Negative balance protection may apply, depending on your jurisdiction and account terms. Where it applies, your losses can’t go beyond the money in your account. You can still lose your full balance, and open positions may close automatically if your margin falls below the level needed to keep them running.
What is a margin call?
A margin call is a warning that your account equity is getting close to the margin needed to keep your positions open. If equity keeps falling to the stop out level, positions start closing automatically. The exact levels are set out in your account terms. Adding funds or closing positions raises your margin level.
How does a stop loss work?
A stop loss closes your position automatically if the price moves against you to a level you choose. It helps you set a limit on what one trade can lose. In fast markets, or when prices gap, it may fill at a worse price than the one you set.
How is my money protected?
Client funds are typically held in segregated accounts, separate from a provider’s own money. Payments use encrypted connections and payment methods in your name, and withdrawal requests are checked before money is released. Our Online Security page explains how we protect your account.
How does SelfMSF protect my personal data?
We use your information to run your account and meet our legal obligations, and we protect it with encrypted connections and limited access inside our team. Our Privacy Policy sets out what we collect and how long we keep it, and you can ask our team about it at any point.
How does leverage affect my risk?
Leverage lets you open a larger position with a smaller deposit, called margin. Leverage increases both gains and losses, because the same price move has a bigger effect on your balance. A 1% move against a position using 1:20 leverage is a 20% loss on the margin you used.
Partnership
How our affiliate and introducing broker programs work.
How do I become a SelfMSF partner?
Apply through the form on our Partnerships page. Our partnerships team looks at your audience, the countries you reach and how you plan to promote SelfMSF. If you’re approved, they’ll talk you through your terms and how to get started.
Should I join as an affiliate or an introducing broker?
An affiliate usually refers traders through online content, like a website, newsletter or social channel, using a tracking link. An introducing broker usually works with clients directly, often alongside their own service or education. The right fit depends on how you reach people. Each partner type has its own terms, and our partnerships team can help you choose.
What marketing materials do partners get?
Approved partners can use marketing materials supplied by SelfMSF, and every piece carries the risk warnings our guidelines require. Your partnerships contact can tell you what’s available for your audience and help you pick the right materials for a campaign.
How do I track my referrals?
Approved partners get access to tracking and reporting tools for their referrals. Our partnerships team will show you where to find your figures and how often they update. If a number on your report doesn’t look right, they can go through it with you.
Can partners promote SelfMSF anywhere?
Partners can promote SelfMSF only in countries where we accept clients, and all marketing must follow our partner guidelines. Those guidelines ask for clear risk warnings and an accurate description of the platform, and they don’t allow promises about trading results.
When do partners get paid?
Payment schedules and commission models are set out in each partner’s terms. Your partnerships contact can explain how your payments are worked out and answer questions about any figure on your statement before it’s paid, including how referrals were counted for that period.

SelfMSF support is available 24 hours a day, five days a week. If you get in touch outside those hours, we’ll reply once the team is back online. The contact form on our website takes messages at any time of day, and including your account email helps us pick up where you left off.
How do I reset my password?
Select “Forgot password” on the login page and enter the email address on your account. We’ll send you a secure link for setting a new password. The link expires after a short time, and you may be asked for your two-factor code.

Can I have more than one account?
Multiple trading accounts may be available under the same profile, depending on your account terms. Each account has its own balance and positions. Our support team can explain the options and how to move funds between accounts.
How do I close my account?
Contact our support team once your positions are closed and your balance has been withdrawn, and we’ll confirm the closure by email. You’re welcome to come back and open a new account later. Some records are kept for a set period afterward to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
