Privacy Policy

Your personal data matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information SelfMSF collects when you visit our website, open an account or use our trading platform, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have over it.

It applies to website visitors, demo and live account holders, people who contact our support team, and anyone else who interacts with SelfMSF online. Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before collecting or using your data in a particular way.

Please take a few minutes to read this policy. If anything is unclear, our contact details are at the end.

1.3 Information from other sources

We may receive information about you from identity verification providers, sanctions and politically exposed person (PEP) screening databases, fraud prevention services, payment processors and, where applicable, publicly available sources. We use this to confirm the information you give us and to meet our legal obligations.

2. Why we use your data

We only process personal data where we have a proper basis for doing so. In most cases that basis is one of the following: performing our contract with you, meeting a legal obligation, pursuing a legitimate business interest that does not override your rights, or your consent.

3. Cookies

Cookies and similar technologies help the website work, keep you logged in, remember your preferences and tell us how the site is performing. Essential cookies are always on. Analytics and marketing cookies are only used with your consent where the law requires it. Full details, including how to withdraw consent, are in our Cookie Policy.

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only where necessary and only with parties who have agreed to protect it.

4.1 Service providers

  • Identity verification and document checking services.
  • Payment processors, banks and payment service providers.
  • Cloud hosting, data storage and IT security providers.
  • Customer support, email and communication platforms.
  • Analytics and performance monitoring tools.
  • Professional advisers such as auditors and lawyers.
Service providers may only use your data for the task we have given them and must apply appropriate security measures.

4.2 Authorities and legal requests

We may disclose personal data to regulators, financial intelligence units, law enforcement, courts or tax authorities where we are legally obliged to do so, or where disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, our clients or the public.

4.3 Business changes

If SelfMSF is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale of assets, personal data may be transferred to the new owner, who will remain bound by this policy or one that offers equivalent protection.

5. International transfers

Our providers and infrastructure may be located in countries other than your own. When personal data is transferred across borders, we use recognised safeguards such as contractual data protection clauses and only work with providers who commit to adequate protection. You can ask us for more information about the safeguards that apply to your data.

6. How we protect your data

We use a combination of technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including:
  • encryption of data in transit and, where appropriate, at rest;
  • role-based access controls so that staff see only what they need;
  • multi-factor authentication for internal systems;
  • regular security testing and monitoring;
  • staff training on data protection and confidentiality;
  • incident response procedures.
If a data breach occurs that is likely to affect you, we will tell you and any relevant authority as required by law. No system is completely secure, so please also follow the account security guidance in section 9.

7. How long we keep data

We keep personal data for as long as your account is open and for a further period afterwards to meet legal, regulatory, tax and dispute-resolution requirements. For most account and transaction records this is at least five years after the relationship ends, and longer where the law requires. Data that is no longer needed is deleted or anonymised securely. Closing your account does not immediately delete your records, because we are legally required to retain certain information for a defined period.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete data we no longer have a legitimate reason to keep;
  • restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing;
  • receive a copy of your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • complain to a data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the timeframe set by applicable law and may ask you to verify your identity first. Some rights are limited where we have overriding legal obligations, for example the obligation to retain records for anti-money laundering purposes.

9. Your part in keeping data safe

  • Use a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication.
  • Never share your credentials, even with someone claiming to be from SelfMSF. We will never ask for your password.
  • Keep your device, browser and apps up to date.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited emails or messages that link to login pages.
  • Log out when you finish, especially on shared devices.
If you suspect your account has been compromised, contact support straight away.

11. Children

SelfMSF is not intended for anyone under 18, or under the age of majority where they live. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our Services, technology or legal obligations change. The latest version will always be available on our website with the date it was last updated. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we will let you know in advance through the platform or by email.
